MSHA TRAINING PLAN

30 CFR, Part 46

 

MSHA approved training plan is presented by an approved and competent MSHA Instructor

 

Ø     New Miner Training

MSHA requires 24 hours of new miner training in their first 60 days, in four specific areas:

1.  Introduction to the Work Environment

                 2.  Recognition and Avoidance of Hazards

3.     Escape and Emergency Evacuation Plans, Fire Warning Signals          

and Fire Fighting Procedures

4.     Health & Safety Aspects of the Task Assigned

 

TSC, Inc. also provides training as required in:

·        Miners Rights

·        Ground Control

·        Health & Safety (including First Aid & CPR)

·        Electrical Hazards

·        Transportation Controls and Communication Systems

 

Ø     Experienced Miner Training

MSHA requires a minimum 8 hours training within 90 days of hire in the following areas:

1.     Miners Rights

2.  Emergency Evacuation Plan & Fire Prevention

3.  Introduction to Work Environment

4.  Ground Control

                        5.  Hazard Recognition

6.  Health & Safety Standards and Training

                        7.  Electrical Hazards

8.  Supervisor Authority and Responsibilities

                        9.  Transportation Controls and Communication Systems

                  

Ø     Annual Refresher Training

MSHA requires 8 hours of annual refresher training in:

1.  Health and Safety Standards (includes first aid)

2.  Transportation Controls and Communication Systems

3.  Emergency Evacuation and Fire Prevention

                 4.  Ground Control

5.  Electrical Hazards

6.  Accident Prevention

 

Ø     Hazard Training

1.  Hazard Recognition

2.  Emergency Evacuation and Fire Prevention

3.  Health & Safety

 

Ø     Task Training

1.  Health & Safety (job related)

2.  Safe Equipment Operations (supervised and unsupervised)

3.  New Modified Equipment Training

 

Ø     Mine Operator Responsibility includes:

                   1.  Introduction to Work Environment

                   2.  Introduction and Safe Equipment Operations

                   3.  New and Modified Equipment Training     

                   4.  Job Related Health and Safety Issues

 

 

TSC, Inc. presents the training programs by lecture, demonstration, discussion and video.

 

Evaluation by demonstrated performance, oral and written examination, participation and observation of trainees.

 

*Self Rescue and Respiratory Devices and Explosives training will be conducted if necessary.

 

Note: 

Miners training certification must be maintained for the duration of the miners’ employment and for 12 months after the employment ends.

 

A copy of the current training plan must be maintained at the mine.

 

Miners must be trained during normal work hours and compensated at normal rates of pay.  Miners must be reimbursed for incidental costs such as mileage, meals and lodging if training is given at a location other than the normal place of work.

 

It is recommended that each miner have a copy of their MSHA Training Certificate in their possession at all times.
